Evergrande founder sentenced to life, firms fined $2.4B

China Evergrande Group founder Hui Ka Yan has been sentenced to life in prison, while his companies were fined a combined 15.8 billion Chinese yuan ($2.4 billion), after he and Evergrande were found guilty of fraudulently issuing securities, violating information disclosure rules and bribery, Financial Post reports, citing Bloomberg. Evergrande is now in liquidation, with creditors examining its assets in hopes of recovering some of their losses.
